Excell LaFayette, Jr.
Supplier
Development
Excell LaFayette, Jr., is an astute businessman and a senior
corporate and broadcast media expert, has been named Director
of Supplier Development for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. after serving
in this role since April 1999. Prior to this promotion, he was
the Manager for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Minority and Women-Owned
Business Development Program (MWBP).
In his current role as Director of Supplier Development, Excell
directs over $2 billion dollars of procurement for Wal-Mart Stores,
Inc. He is responsible for MWBP’s administration, operations
and growth within Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for majority, minority
and women-owned businesses.
Prior to serving in his current capacity, Excell was the Manager
for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Television Network from 1994 to 1998.
In this position, he provided domestic and international audio-visual
broadcast creative production and training.
Before joining Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Excell was a Video Production
Representative for Oklahoma based Phillips Petroleum Company
responsible for providing corporate public affairs, safety training
and executive and legal presentations.
Mr. LaFayette’s broadcast media experience is quite prolific.
From 1983 to 1989, he held several positions with KTUL-TV channel
8 in Oklahoma including: Studio Operations Supervisor, Electronic
Field Production Producer, Photographer and News Photojournalist.
His responsibilities included daily live station broadcasts;
production, sports and live news events; commercials and public
and community service programs.
Excell was appointed Chairman of the Arkansas Minority Business
Advisory Council by Governor Mike Huckabee. He is also a recipient
