Carlos M. Quiñones

Carlos M. Quiñones is a partner/shareholder
at Narvaez Law Firm, P.A., the only minority-owned civil defense
law firm in New Mexico. He practices primarily in the areas of
employment discrimination, premises liability, and general civil
defense litigation practice. He is a current national board member
of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF).
He is also on the board of the New Mexico State Bar Employment
and Labor Division.
Mr. Quiñones was employed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. from
2000-2003 in the capacity of Senior Corporate Counsel. As such,
he was a member of legal department’s employment division,
and managed Wal-Mart employment litigation in the western United
States. Prior to that assignment, Mr. Quiñones was an
in-house litigator for Wal-Mart, and represented the company
in employment lawsuits throughout the country. He has tried jury
cases in St. Louis, Philadelphia, Little Rock, and Denver, as
well as in New Mexico.
Wal-Mart appointed Mr. Quiñones as its liaison to the
Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) in 2000. In 2002, the
HNBA recognized Wal-Mart as its Corporate Partner of the Year
in large part to Mr. Quiñones’ successful efforts
in diversifying Wal-Mart’s outside counsel as well as in-house
legal department. Mr. Quiñones was the founder of the
legal department’s diversity committee.
Mr. Quiñones received his Bachelor of Arts degree in
history and social science from Western New Mexico University
in Silver City, New Mexico. Mr. Quiñones attended the
University of New Mexico School of Law in Albuquerque. The New
Mexico Supreme Court admitted Mr. Quiñones to practice
in October 1995.
He was in private practice for several years immediately prior
to his employment with Wal-Mart. Besides New Mexico State courts,
Mr. Quiñones is also admitted to practice in the United
States Federal District Courts of New Mexico and Colorado, and
before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Quiñones
is a member of the American Bar Association and the New Mexico
Hispanic Bar Association.
Mr. Quiñones was born in Silver City, New Mexico on September
30, 1961. He graduated from Cobre High School in Bayard, New
Mexico, a small mining town. He has two children, Carlos Jesús
and Anastasia María. He is engaged to Angélica
Rigales. His family immigrated to the United States from Santa
Bárbara, Chihuahua, México, and Mr. Quiñones
has the distinction of being the first in his family to be born
in the United States. Mr. Quiñones is bilingual (English
and Spanish). He currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He enjoys traveling, music, sports, gardening and reading.
